In the year 9 ad, Roman troops have occupied large areas of Germania. The Germans lure the Roman army into an ambush. Mastermind is the Cherusci and Roman officer of Arminius. Three legions are slaughtered — more than 10 000 people die. Named after the General of Publius Quinctilius Varus, this defeat enters history as "Varus Battle".

1987: The British officer Tony Clunn finds in Kalkriese in the area of Bramsche in the Osnabrücker land Roman Denars and three slotting made from lead - the first weapons, the first traces of a battle between Romans and Germanic people. 1989 archaeological excavations began: scientists set free coins, weapons, fragments of Roman soldier frames, human and animal bones.
